Travel insurance available for domestic partners

A press release issued today by Access America says that the company has expanded its travel insurance coverage to include protection of domestic partners.

Domestic partners are defined as persons with whom the policyholder has lived continuously for 12 months prior to the effective date of coverage.

"Access America is proud to provide travel insurance benefits to domestic partners. Our business serves the needs of today's traveler and reflects the reality of the marketplace," said Beth Godlin, Access America's Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

Godlin noted that gay and lesbian travelers represent a significant portion of the marketplace, spending more than $54 billion on travel per year. "Our travel insurance, including the expanded benefits coverage, is usually about five to seven percent of the trip cost. Travel insurance is an effective, affordable way to protect non-traditional families on the road," Godlin said.

Travelers should talk to their travel agents about what type of insurance is best for them. Be sure to ask about coverage that protects against delays or cancellations caused by:

     * Illness, injury or death of the insured, covered family or traveling
       companions
     * Airline, tour, cruise or other supplier bankruptcy
     * Terrorism
     * Bad weather conditions and natural disasters
