has been updated with stories for February 24 (bill in Colorado would require one year of
counseling before a divorce is granted) and February 22 (bill in Congress would give
financial support to unmarried domestic violence victims to help them pursue civil damages
in court).
Domestic Partner News has been updated with stories for February 24 (Scottsdale considering
domestic partner benefits for its employees) and February 22 (Colorado state Senate
defeats same-sex partner inheritance bill).
Carole Baldock, author
of "How to Succeed as a Single Parent," has joined AASP and has been added to
the list of Book Author members.
HB01-1342 (which would make
divorces more difficult to obtain in Colorado) and HB 454 (which would declare that a
civil union from another state shall not be valid in New Hampshire) and HB 1054 (which
would give non-parents some visitation rights in the state of Washington) have been added
to the "Legislation to Watch,"
section of the site.

Congress to give benefits to the domestic partners of federal employees, and HR 690, a
bill to allow same-sex permanent partners of US citizens to immigrate to the United States
just as spouses of citizens may now immigrate to this country, have been added to

(Surviving Beyond Happily Ever After).
An essay about Arizona's
anti-cohabitation law which makes it a crime for an unmarried man and woman to cohabit has
been added to the section of our site containing "Essays,
Letters, and Opinions."

repeal criminal laws prohibiting unmarried cohabitation and consensual sodomy, has been
added to the "Legislation to
Watch," section of the site.

anti-cohabitation and sodomy laws).
Domestic Partner News has been updated with four stories for February 14, 2001 (federal bill
would give spousal immigration rights to same-sex "permanent partners"; another
federal bill would give government employees benefits for same-gender partners; Colorado's
proposed ban on partner benefits is rejected by a legislative committee; Finland open
debate on registered partnerships).

has been updated with a story for February 9, 2001 (everyone who pays taxes gets relief
under Bush plan) and February 8 (New Mexico senate votes to repeal anti-cohabitation law)
and February 7 (California appeals court revives woman's palimony suit) and one for
February 5 (Internet used for visitation in Florida divorce case).
SB 139, a Colorado bill to
prohibit benefits to domestic partners, has been added to the "Legislation to Watch," section
of the site.
The "Letters Received" section of the site has been
updated with a letter for February 6, 2001 about AT&T and employee benefits.

A new feature, entitled "Legislation to Watch," has been added
to the site. In this section of the website, we list pending legislation in Congress
and in state Legislatures which significantly affect the rights and well being of single
and unmarried adults. We provide bill number, name and contact information for the
author of the bill, a short summary of its text, and the current status of the bill.
We are not lobbying for or against any of this legislation. This is an
educational function intended to inform AASP members and visitors to our website about
important pending legislation. What action, if any, is taken by those who review the
educational materials, is entirely up to them.
A new page has been added to
the site listing "Cities and Counties Requiring
Municipal Contractors who Provide Domestic Partner Benefits."

Domestic Partner News has been updated with a story for January 31 about a legal conference at
Brigham Young University. The symposium will focus on recommendations by the
American Law Institute that would encourage states to recognize domestic partnerships
(same and opposite sex) for the purpose of extending protections to the partners when the
relationship terminated. AASP executive director, Thomas F. Coleman, is making a
presentation at the conference.

couples to jointly adopt children) and three stories for January 30 (Texas sodomy repeal
bill pending; becoming single again, after the split; Japanese court says United Airlines
