has been updated with one story for January 25 and one for January 24, 2001. The
first concerns a move to repeal inheritance taxes in New Hampshire which are unfair to
single people without children and to unmarried couples. The second discusses a
report showing that older women who live alone are not at a higher health risk because of
their unmarried status.

Recent News
has been updated with one story for January 23 about the new tax-cut proposals introduced
into Congress and one for January 22 about the flogging of a Nigerian girl for premarital
sex. Also added were two stories for January 20, one about a proposed law that would
allow courts to grant visitation rights to grandparents and unmarried partners who have
been denied visitation privileges by a biological parent, and another discussing the fact
that the extent of teen sex has been underreported because most teens don't consider oral
or anal sex to be "sex." The section has also been updated with a story
for January 19 about the legal disability of non-marital children in Nairobi and two for
January 16, the first of which says that the teen "virginity pledge" movement is
ineffective, despite a report claiming the contrary, and the second which discusses a
"covenant marriage" bill introduced in Iowa. Another story was added for
January 17 about new tax rules from the IRS that will affect the amount of money that
unmarried retirees must withdraw from their retirement plans.
Domestic Partner News has been updated with a story for January 23 about a case before the
Washington state Supreme Court that will affect the right of same-sex partners to inherit
from each other if one partner dies without a will. A story was also added for
January 22 about a lawsuit in Washington state to cancel same-sex partner benefits for
state workers, and a story for January 18 about a bill in Massachusetts which would
prohibit legal recognition of any type of same-sex union, whether it be called
"marriage" or "civil union" or any other name.

Art Goldberg has joined AASP
and has been added to the list of our Honorary Members.
Goldberg is a criminal defense lawyer and is currently a candidate for the Los Angeles
City Council. He is the brother of the outgoing councilmember for the 13th council
district, Jackie Goldberg, who has just begun serving her first term in the California
State Assembly.

Release section of our site.
Recent News
has been updated with one story for January 4, 2001, about a court decision involving
co-ed dorms for unmarried students at Yale, and a second story about a Nigerian girl who
will be lashed 180 times for having engaged in premarital sex. Another story for the
same date reports that only about half of teens who promise to abstain from sex until
marriage actually keep the promise for more than four years.
Domestic Partner News has been updated with one story for January 4, 2001, about the
possibility of domestic partner benefits being extended to city employees in Houston,
Texas, and a second story about how human resource managers are becoming more aware of the
growing importance of benefits for the "significant others" of employees, not
just same-sex partners.

has been updated with one story for December 31, 2000, about a planned legal challenge to
a law in Utah which forbids joint adoption of children by same-sex couples and a story for
December 30 focusing on the large number of Christian couples who chose to refrain from
sex until they are married. A profile of an unmarried-rights advocate, Marshall Miller,
was added to the stories for December 27, 2000.

Recent News
has been updated with one story for December 29, 2000, about the increase in school
programs that teach kids that sex is only for married couples. One story for
December 28 tells that more couples in Japan are having sex before marriage, with a
resulting rise in pregnant brides. Three stories have been added for December 27 -- one
focuses on a new law in Australia that allows couples to enter into pre-marriage
agreements to spell out the details of their married life, another discusses the rising
divorce rate for elderly married couples in the United States, and a third about a
courageous single woman in China who is seeking artificial insemination which the law
restricts to married couples.
