Personal ads not popular to Northern Ireland singles

A story released today by BBC News reports that according to a survey conducted by the them, singles in Northern Ireland preferred the workplace to personal ads in their search for the perfect partner.

More than 80% of those questioned felt work was a good place to "meet new people".

About 4,000 singles across the UK responded to the BBC's Going Solo questionnaire.

Its findings showed UK singles want relationships that do not involve their partners actually moving in.

64% of singles questioned in Northern Ireland thought personal columns were a bad way to meet new people. The most popular ways to meet new people were through friends (87%), the gym (69%) and at pubs and clubs (74%).

"Places of worship ranked highly in Northern Ireland, with 61% of respondents saying they were good places to meet new people," said the survey's authors.

The findings also revealed that 13% of Northern Ireland single women are not looking for a relationship, with 63% of women apprehensive about starting a new relationship.

Marriage is not seen as the ultimate goal in a relationship by 78% of all UK respondents.
