NYC mayor opposes contract law that provides for dp benefits
A story published today by the New York Post reports that New York city mayor Bloomberg last night said he opposes a bill before the City Council that would force contractors who do business with the city to provide domestic-partner benefits. "Trying to use the city's procurement dollars to advance social issues is just counterproductive," Bloomberg said. "Companies will choose not to deal with the city if we try to dictate their employment policies. The results will be that all New York citizens become losers." The mayor reminded his audience that he has signed into law a bill that recognizes domestic partnerships entered into in other jurisdictions.
