North Carolina triad city not singles friendly?
A story released today by the News & Record reports that singles in the Triad cities of Greensboro, Winston and Salem and have plenty of good things to say about the region but Forbes.com still doesn't. The Triad ranked 38th out of 40 metro areas in the site's annual survey of the best places for singles to live in the United States -- the very same ranking as a year ago. Young professionals here responded by swamping Forbes this year with messages about why the Triad's cultural events, restaurants and sports attractions make it a great place. "They came out in droves," said Davide Dukcevich, a Forbes.com staffer who coordinated the survey, released Thursday. "I think that says a lot about a place." But the results of the survey, which rated metros based on categories ranging from job growth to a "coolness index," proved hauntingly familiar. "I think that people who live here know that that's not accurate," said Jenny Stokes, the young professionals coordinator for Action Greensboro, a nonprofit trying to spur economic growth here. "People are trying to change the perception (of the Triad), but it's going to take a lot more effort." And things could have been worse, Pittsburgh wound up last, one spot behind No. 39 Cincinnati.
