Ohio high court allows domestic partners to adopt same last name

A story released today by Queerlaw.com reports that the Ohio Supreme Court has announced that a lesbian couple could adopt the same last name under Ohio's name change law.

The decision reversed a ruling by the court of appeals, which had ruled that allowing an unmarried couple, either same or opposite sex, to have the same last name would violate public policy because it would mislead people into thinking they are legally married.

The Ohio Supreme Court said they thought it was unlikely anybody would be mislead by the common last name into thinking a same-sex couple in Ohio was married.
