AARP releases study on sexual attitudes of older adults

Women who grew up in the Age of Aquarius are carrying the sexually permissive attitudes of the 1960s into midlife, according to a new national survey that suggests an imminent revolution in sex in the last third of life.

More than men their age, women of the baby boom generation approve of sex outside marriage. In fact, most women between the ages of 45 and 59 think it's OK for unmarried people to have sex, but most women over 60 disapprove of unmarried sex.

Compared to their mothers, women in midlife are also far more likely to engage in oral sex and masturbation and ''are less likely to believe that sex is only for younger people,'' said Constance Swank of the American Association of Retired Persons, which sponsored the study and published it yesterday in its magazine, Modern Maturity.
