The U.S. Census Bureau has documented that 113 members of the United States House of Representatives have districts in which the majority of households are headed by unmarried adults.  The "unmarried majority" households in these districts consist of a variety of living arrangements, including solo singles, roommates, unmarried partners, single parents, and unmarried relatives sharing a house or apartment.  The staff of AASP has analyzed this census data, complied a list of these House members, and created a website page for each of them, including pertinent contact information.

On April 15th -- income tax deadline day -- we sent a packet of information to these members of Congress, asking them to be mindful of the needs and concerns of the unmarried majority in their districts as they vote on pending legislation, including and especially reforms to income taxes, social security tax and benefits, and estate taxes.  We reminded them that the promise of equality applies to everyone regardless of marital status.  You should contact your representative to share your views too.  If you are not sure who your U.S. Representative is, click here to find out.
